The display works fine and I can navigate from record to record fine. Like you, I could move through the records without any problem, but when I tried to update one of the fields I received the error: Insufficent Key Field Information for Updating or Refreshing. Sub Description FROM Table1 INNER JOIN Table2 ON Table1. Item ID; Or I could change the name of the foreign key in the Many table: SELECT Table1. Changing it in one place conflicts with that same value in another place. The source for the data control was a two table join (one-to-many) SQL statement. This is because the same value from that "one" side appears in more than one record in the recordset. Adodc error: Insufficient Key Column Information for Updating or Refreshing This error occurs when your queries don't contain all of the primary keys of each table that they reference. Error: Insufficient key column information for updating or refreshing 8. MSData Shape: Insufficient key column information for updating or refreshing 11.

But the problem is when I want to modify any data on the form that has the adodc as its Datasource. After playing with cursor settings for awhile, I discovered it wasnt a cursor problem. Sub Description FROM Table1 INNER JOIN Table2 ON Table1. Item ID; I was able to eliminate the problem in two different ways. Postal Code " & _ " FROM tbl* RIGHT JOIN " & _ " (tbl Address RIGHT JOIN tbl Child ON " & _ " tbl Address. Address ID) ON " & _ " tbl*.*ID = tbl Child.*ID " & _ " ORDER BY tbl Child. First Name" Primary keys: Tbl Child = Child ID Tbl* = *ID Tbl Address = Address ID The interesting thing is that, after I read your note, I thought, "OK just put tbl Child. Is it possible you have more than one field named First Name?

Address ID, then things went back to "normal" and at least display the records, although I still cant update the records. Thanks a million, Christine Thanks, I did that and now have a worse problem - Runtime error error 545: Unable to bind to field or datamember: 'First Name on the statement "First Name. I posted the original SQL in a post to someone else who had the same idea, if you'd be kind enough to look at it and see what you think. Christine Hi Christine, I am not currently seeing your other post (at least not under this thread or your name), the server I go through must not have picked it up yet...

Thanks again for your help, Christine Christine, I had a problem similar to yours. Sub Description FROM Table1 INNER JOIN Table2 ON Table1. If your SQL statement results in a recordset with more than one record on the many side for each record on the one side, you might run into an additional problem if your form is not set up in a master/child relationship. Please note that even though my two tables were linked in a one-to-many relationship in the database, my SQL statement actually resulted in a recordset with a one-to-one relationship (there was only one linked record for every main record).

I'm finding Dejanews to be my newsgroup tool of choice because I can find old threads I can learn from and I have a lot to learn. Please note that even though my two tables were linked in a one-to-many relationship in the database, my SQL statement actually resulted in a recordset with a one-to-one relationship (there was only one linked record for every main record).

Now I get error Runtime error 545: Unable to bind to field or datamember: 'First Name on the statement "First Name. When I took back out the line from the SELECT statement about the tbl Child ID, tbl*.*ID andtbl Address.

Basic Info: My SQL version 5.0.16, Windows XP Professional SP2, Visual Basic 6.0 I am trying to migrate an Access db to My SQL and have encountered the following problems on code that worked fine with Access in VB6 using the Data Dynamics Sharp Grid control but not with My SQL: updating a record gives the error: [Microsoft Cursor Engine] insufficient key column information for updating or refreshing even when the ADO recordset contains no duplicates and the primary key.

I tried binding to the Is Read Only property but found that it is not bindable, so I created templates for the two fields and bound the Is Enabled property to the Is Text and Is Numeric fields.

This worked exactly like I wanted, the textboxes were enabled when necessary.

The code is a bit long but I will email it to those who are interested.
